About

The word Sankofa derives from the Akan people of Ghana and it means “to go back and get it”. The Sankofa symbol is an image of a mythical bird that faces forward but looks backward. The Akan people believe that you must always remember your past and use the knowledge gained from your past to move forward in life. As part of our vision at Sankofa Bridge, youth will be exposed to cultural experiences via national & international travel, empowerment workshops, and opportunity outreach programs. Youth will use what they’ve learned as a source of empowerment as they move forward in their respective lives''. Our organization is the “Bridge” that allows children to connect with their historical past and use that knowledge to propel them into a successful future.

"We believe all children deserve a quality cultural experience that will become a positive source of reference for them as they navigate their way through life into adulthood." - Coreen McCall
